With the end of first term drawing to an eventual close, mirroring the dawning of the minimal daylight hours, it arrived, at once, time to pack up my belongings and leave York for a Christmas holiday back home with my family.

Making the most of my last few weeks in York, I revelled in the merriness of the Christmas festivities, albeit a month too soon! With jovial cocktails with the girls, too many Bailey’s hot chocs and many a Christmas meal (and a brunch) with friends, it’s deffo beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Magical and merry, York has lots to offer in terms of the Christmassy vibes. From the Xmas lights switch on, the Christmas markets and carols at the Minster (in November alone) you surely find yourself questioning what month you are in?!

However, now officially in December, all the Christmas feels are welcomed with tidings of comfort and joy.

Although sad to leave York and my uni chums behind, the prospect of home comforts and Christmas films on repeat is certainly exciting. A much-needed break from the constant cycle of deadlines and endless amounts of reading, despite January exams and essay deadlines looming! The stress inducing term has left me, and many others, in need of some rest and relaxation, seeing the end to 2018 with a chance to recoup, ready to welcome in 2019 with open arms.

And so, the drive home commenced. Leaving a mild and wintery York to return to a rainy Ribble Valley, it was clear nothing had changed. With Chris Rea on loop, and the occasional Mariah interlude, home was within reach, and the countdown to Christmas has officially begun!
